NYSESLAT
The New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) is designed to
annually assess the English proficiency of all English language learners enrolled in Grades K–12
in New York State schools. The test gives the State and schools important information about the
English language development of English language learners, and is part of the State’s compliance
with federal laws that mandate the annual assessing and tracking of English proficiency of English
language learners. Results of this test are available in September of the following school year.
NYSESLAT 2015 Testing Dates Grades K ‐ 12
All ELLs are required to take this test.
April 14 ‐ May 15 (Speaking portion)
May 4 – May 15 (Reading, Writing, Listening )
New York State Mathematics Test Grades 3,4,5
All ELLs are required to take this test. Translated written versions are available in Chinese, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian and Spanish.
2015 Test Dates - April 22 , April 23 & April 24
New York State English Language Arts (ELA)
LEP-eligible students in Grades 3-8 (including those from Puerto Rico) who will have been attending school in the United States for less than one year will use the NYSESLAT in lieu of the 3–8 New York State Testing Program in ELA. All other ELLs are required to take this test in English.
